And I have actually tried to find that missing part for many years. I started reading self-help books, attended workshops, and I was open for different approaches. But I didn’t experience the “AHA” moment.
And then we moved to Denmark because of my husband’s relocation job opportunity. I was so excited about the move, but it wasn’t near to what I have imagined to be. It was the time when I wasn’t able to hide behind my quick fixations any more. Our financial situation wasn’t as abundant as before, I lost all my personal network, I left my career behind. I was in a new and insecure situation.
But this was the opportunity that led me to think deeply about who I am and what I really want to do next. Slowly, I have started to see my life’s bigger picture more and more clearly. I have realized that for all those years, I tried to please the outside expectations. I lived my parents’ and society’s blueprint. Before, I would focus on chasing conventional expectations so much that all other details were unimportant.
But these “details” are the source of my joy in today’s life and career. I am talking about my values, talents and strengths, interests and the impact that I want to embrace. I finally became aware of my full potential. And only if I follow all these, then I can feel fulfilled and good enough. And is nothing more liberating than being authentic and courageous. In the end, this relocation meant for me that 1 + 1 = 3.
As after this move, I was forced to look deeper inside myself and stop hiding behind short-term solutions. I wonder if I would have been able to do the significant transformation back home as well. Probably not, because the expectations of the outside world would still blind me. And I would continue with chasing the never-reachable “being enough”.
